Pejeng

The Pejeng region has some of Bali's most prehistoric monuments and leftovers. With the location in a verdant green valley surrounded by terraced rice paddies, there are 10 impressive rock-cut holy places of Gunung Kawi. The shrines are engraved out of the rock face in a reproduction of actual statues.

Another important sites are the rock carvings at Yeh Pulu, the Pura Samuan Tiga and Goa Gajah (the elephant cave). One of the most impressive ancient times heritage is Pura Penataran Sasih. This temple was the religious center of the old Pejeng Kingdom.

Penelokan

With the location 1450 meters above sea level, Penelokan is a spectacular site to take pleasure in viewing Gunung Batur or Batur Mountain.

From Penelokan, the main road runs right round the rim towards Kintamani, the panorama shifting as circling around the crater. For a complete panoramic view, pass the half circumference of the crater along its upper rim. The highest point is Bukit Penulisan. Here, one of the most ancient of Bali's temples contain the remains of carvings from the earliest Buddhist period. From Penulisan, the road continues towards Buleleng and Kubutambahan.

Pulaki

Located in the north coast of Bali, Pulaki has sacred temples where temple can be found among the trees and monkeys live free. Hot spring is also the attraction of Pulaki.

After passing a huge rock face almost to the sea and the nearby Pulaki Temple, tourists can reach the newly developed Pemuteran beach resort, with fair accommodation and black sand, though it is a little far from Bali's cultural centers. 

Tampak Siring

As a home of numerous woodcarvers, tourist can find a wide selection of woodcarving products. Another attraction in Tampak Siring is the Presidential Palace designed by former Indonesian President Sukarno.

As the road rises steadily from Bangli or Tampaksiring, nothing in the surrounding landscape of bushes and garden plots suggest the presence of a volcano, but over one more small ridge a dizzying view awaits the eyes, encompassing the crater and beyond.
